Shake, Rattle & Color??

I have wanted to do a macaroni dying activity for a while with the kids but just haven't been able to get to it.
So when I read THIS post yesterday from Miss Sheryl at Teaching 2 and 3 Year Olds, I knew there was no better time than the present.  I gathered all the materials to have ready for today and left them out for the kids to discover.  Today we had the school aged kids home from school, so I thought it would be a fun for them to help us... but that's not what happened...

Little Man getting the macaroni ready for colors

Sprout had fun SHAKIN the bag of ORANGE macaroni

Lil Bit was RATTLING the YELLOW

Little Man was SQUISHING with all his might!!

Here is our Orange and Yellow macaroni.
It was hard getting the Yellow to come out, since the macaroni is already a Yellowish color

Blue turned to green... Oh Well, they loved it anyway.
Lots of Owws & Ahhs...

Orange Rice... it was very squishy in the bag

Our school aged friends had more fun catching up with each other and playing house that they didn't really pay much attention to what we were doing, except Lil Bit's sister... she gave our activity a Shake, Rattle & Squish!!  We then set our School Aged friends up with some more Tape Resist Painting.  This time we used Liquid Water Colors from Discount School Supply.  I told them they could do ANYTHING they wanted, but since everyone has a sibling that took home a Tape Resist Letter Painting last week, that is what they choose to do :)

Although the big kids did letters, the Roo and Sprout were over that and wanted to make some plain old designs

Is that a snake, Sprout??

Having fun exploring and experimenting with a new art medium.
What fun we had today.  I can't wait until the macaroni and rice dries and we can begin exploring those over the next few days.  We will be making necklaces, gluing, and touching all of them.  We can't wait!!

  1. Ooooh, you are better than I am. You got the kids involved in the process! I'm doing that next time. Thank you for linking back to me!
