Sun Catchers

With the beautiful summer weather really starting to take shape we thought it was time for our annual sun catcher project.
Out came the glue, tissue paper and clear plastic plates and off we went!!!
I'm telling you, that tongue is the absolute cutest!!
She has it out whenever she is concentrating!!

"Look Shell, Look Shell"
I am guessing there is glue on that little hand!!

Lil Bit went through A LOT of tissue paper.  She would pat it on the glue, then it would stick on her fingers, over and over again.  She would then take it off and try again, over and over again.  You wonder why she is always the last one at the table ;)

"Oh I got this... I don't even need to sit down for this project"

We were very proud of our finished products!!

Flitter, Flutter Little Butterfly

We have scoured my yard for a caterpillar this year, but to no avail.  We think maybe we missed them due to the warm weather this Spring.  So, we decided to become caterpillar's ourselves...

Here is our Egg...

The Caterpillar's are missing in this sequence due to some technical difficulties we had while squirming on the ground ;)
But we managed to capture our Caterpillars "Spinning" their cocoon

Here are those cute little caterpillars resting in their cocoons

Oh My... Look they are emerging like beautiful butterflies!!!

We had flittering, fluttering butterflies all over the playroom... can't get better than that!!!

After we finished being butterflies we decided to make some coffee filter butterflies.  I love process art, and we do some sort of process art everyday, but because it is more process over product it either doesn't make it into the blog post, or even go home for that matter.  I  may just have the project out to help with a certain goal or fine motor skill I am working on with the kids.  When I was going through some past activities about the life cycle of a caterpillar/butterfly I came across this craft.  I love it because it has the element of process art, but with just a little help from Shell, we get a beautiful butterfly at the end.  The kids were able to help with the gluing all I did was the folding and pulling the wings apart at the end.  I think our butterflies came out gorgeous!!!

Working Hard

"You want me to show you how it's done?"

Sprout was waiting her turn, and you could tell Lil Bit wasn't about to give up her seat ;)

Roo made sure her whole coffee filter,um butterfly, was covered in beautiful colors...
"Just like a real butterfly Michelle"

See, I told you, gorgeous!!!

What Did We Do Today??

We are reading "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle this week.  We really love this story because there is so much we can do with it.  We have been looking outside for a caterpillar to add to our bug habitat, singing silly butterfly/caterpillar songs, and even acting out the story.  Chomping through all those yummy foods like the caterpillar is always fun!!  Today we decided to make our very own caterpillar... we looked at photos of them, we studied the caterpillar from our book and noticed that he was made up of sections... wow!!  I had some already cut out circles from a different project and we used them to create a colorful caterpillar.

I love that I caught Roo saying, "Tada!!"

Gotta love Sprouts concentration tongue!!

Lil Bit's Daddy (Thanks Lil Bit's Dad!!) brought us some freshly picked strawberries from a local farm...
Oh how yummy they were!!!!

Busy, Busy, Busy

While Spring has come to NC, today it was downright cold!!  Cold and Rainy!!  I was getting used to the early Spring weather, so much so that when we went for a walk this morning, I was actually surprised at how cold it was, BRRRRRRR....

Staying inside is hard on the kids after spending so much time outside over the last few weeks.  They love to move their bodies in the freedom that the outdoors allows.  Being inside this morning was a little hard on some of us ;)  So, what does a provider do in situations like this, you ask???

WE DANCE!!!

And Dance...

Laugh a little...

Dance Some More!!!
What a great way to get the wiggles out!!!
Miss Crystal, our local Librarian, is visiting today and I knew if we didn't get some more large muscle movement it may make for a wiggly, squiggly story time... so outside we went!!!

Had to stop to pick up some flowers for Mom!!

Scamp saw the big girls smelling the flowers along the walk, so...
She had to give it a try.

We directed her and Lil Bit towards the more fragrant flowers on the porch!!

Sniff, Sniff...

Mmmmmmmm!!

Now with all those wiggles out... we are ready!!!

Miss Crystal shows us what's in her special bag!!
We are getting excited!!
Miss Crystal ALWAYS remembers our littlest friends!!
She always has special books just for them to touch and look at!!
She is the BEST!!!

Miss Crystal also always remembers to bring the coveted STICKERS for the end of Story Time!!

Comparing is also fun :)

We began an art project today that will be finished tomorrow...
I wonder what it could be??

What a busy morning!!
My little friends were very tired by lunch time and could not wait for a snuggle and nap time.
All that movin, shakin, and learnin, means our bodies and mind need a rest...
So we can do it all over again later!!!
